I came upon Vidabox, after having a Media Max (now Mozaex) system installed
in my home. The Media Max system was a complete disaster to say the least,
it constantly crashed, could not play more than one movie at a time, only
about half the movies you burned ever played, and the user interface looked
like it was straight out of the 80's (if you take nothing else from this
review, do not buy from Mozaex). Finally after being ignored for weeks by
Media Max, I decided enough was enough and was going to bite the bullet and
replace the system.
This is when my research led me to Vidabox, I emailed
for more info and within an hour I received a reply with all the pertinent
info. We then designed my system based on my needs (making a few upgrades in
the process); A Rack24 with 20TB Raid 6, and three RackclientV2's. I then
hooked my dealer with Vidabox and ordered the system. Within 3 weeks the
system was at my door. My installers had no problem setting up and
everything worked as advertised. The system did exactly what I was sold on
and after minimal configuration the system ran full Blu-ray support with
full bit-streaming of all the HD Codecs (DTS Master and Dolby True HD), along
with full PCM 7.1 support. The system burned both Blu-rays and DVD's
flawlessly and WMC interface, the system was
very intuitive and easy to use. So much so I have since added 6 more Thin
Clients to the remaining TV's in my home, giving Vidabox capability at every
location and also adding another 20TB's of storage for the server. Both the
storage upgrade and additional player installs worked flawlessly right out
of the box; a true plug and play solution.
The customer service is second to
none, not only do they always solve the issue at hand, their response time
is almost immediate. There was an instance when I had emailed Steve with an
issue on a Friday night at 11:00pm and literally within 5 minutes he had
remotely logged into my system and immediately began to solve the problem, I
have experienced this superb customer service more than once. They always
make sure to fully test all upgrades to both software and hardware before
implementing, and approving to insure that we the customer never have down
time and the system is working at peak potential.
The system is a workhorse
and seems to be able to handle just about anything you want it to do, in my
own experience I have been burning 4 or 5 Blu-rays at a time while also
streaming a different Blu-ray movie to all the players, and I have done this
with not even the slightest degradation in performance. I have looked at
several systems including Kaleidoscope and none of them truly compare to
Vidabox in performance, customer service and ease of use. If you're looking
for a true out of the box HTPC solution for either one room or for your
whole house, Vidabox is absolutely what you want in your home.
