Get simultaneously SPDIF (5.1) and analog (2.0) audio from a single Digital Audio Source
This SPDIF-to-stereo splitting kit is usually not needed in most installations - but it can be integral when both Digital and Analog audio
are needed at the same time.
For simultaneous digital & analog audio output
In some instances, a user may want to hear 5.1 surround sound in his/her theater from the SPDIF out of a audio-video source, but
also wants distribute this source through the rest of the house through their multiroom audio system. However, many set-top boxes and
media centers have DRM limitations where only 1 type of audio output - a choice of either HDMI, digital/SPDIF, or analog - can be active at any given time (i.e. there are no simultaneous outputs). Thus, simply connecting the cables to the different outputs would not permit this to work.
This "SPDIF DAC & Splitting Kit" is the answer! Simply connect the source's optical or coaxial SPDIF output, split it, and have 1 digital output (optical or coaxial) go into the surround sound receiver, and the other output would be fed into the SPDIF DAC. This DAC will then actively convert the digital audio signal directly into 2.0 analog, allowing you to enjoy both 5.1 and 2.0 audio simultaneously!
