vAutomation™ Training

vAutomation Powering the Home
As an AV Integrator, VidaBox can help your project - every step of the way

Because vAutomation is so powerful, it is also complex. Thus, hands-on training is mandatory for all VidaBox installers/integrators who wish to get started with vAutomation. The training regimen consists of:

  • Part I: 8+ hours of self-guided training via training videos (below)
Self-guided training can begin at any time, just so that a dealer/integrator can get a flavor of what would be involved before making solid financial or time committment.

  • Part II: Purchasing a VidaBox demo system & vPad or TouchClient12
If an installer/integrator is interested and would like to learn more about vAutomation with CQC, the next step is to purchase a demo system and a controller (vPad or TouchClient12), so that one can start programming and using live equipment to get first hand experience. Given that most integrators and installers can only spend a few hours a day/week to Realistically

  • Part III: Attending a multi-day comprehensive VidaBox/CQC sponsored training. (Next training: Click here for details!)

The links below provide a video tutorial for the CQC system, which vAutomation is based on and powered by. You will need to familiarize yourself with CQC to successfully complete vAutomation projects.

It is recommended that you view these two sections in the order presented, since they provide prerequisite material for all the succeeding videos. Download the CQC software here to follow along with the videos:

Begin with the first video to get the product installed. Be sure to see the How-To Videos section at the end for help with more advanced tasks. Only the core product features are covered here.

These videos are Windows Media based, and should be viewable in any player capable of playing Windows Media files.

Tutorial Videos

Installation and Initial Configuration

  • Installation. Demonstrates a basic installation of a single machine system, which will be used in the rest of these tutorial videos.

  • Loading Drivers. Shows you how to load device drivers, which is the most fundamental aspect of configuring CQC, since it allows CQC to control those devices.

  • Client Side Drivers. Demonstrates the concept of client side driver interfaces, which are used to configure more complex drivers.

  • Admin Interface. Describes the fundamental administrative tool for CQC.

  • Advanced Installation Part 1. Gets deeper into the installer. You can come back to this after you've done the rest of the tutorial.

Actions
  • Part 1. Explains the basic concepts of actions and demonstrates configuring a system action.

  • Part 2. Demonstrates some more advanced action techniques.

Scheduled and Triggered Events

Graphical Interfaces

  • Concepts. Explains the basic concepts of CQC graphical user interfaces by way of a working example.

  • Interface Editor. Demonstrates the basic operations of the CQC User Interface Editor.

  • Actions in Interfaces. Expands on the action concept, discussed above, and the extra capabilities available in user interfaces.

  • Text. Describes the use of static and dynamic text content in user interfaces.

  • Images. Describes the use of images in the interface system.

  • Check Boxes. Describes the checkbox, which is a very flexible widget that can be used in a number of ways.

  • Overlays. Describes the overlay widget and its uses.

  • ToolBar. Describes the toolbar, which is a very commonly used high level widget.

  • Volume Knob/Slider. Demonstrates the volume knob and slider widgets. These look very different but act very similarly.

  • States. Describes the interface system's state mechanism.

  • Pop-ups. Demonstrates how to use pop-ups in your user interfaces.

  • Pop-outs. Demonstrates how to use pop-outs in your user interfaces. These are just fancier cousins of pop-ups.

  • Focus. Explains the concept of focus and the means for implementing it in your CQC interfaces.

Web Server

  • File Based Content. Describes the web server and the simplest uses of it to display automation system information.

  • Repository Images. Describes how to access images from the CQC image repository in your web interfaces.

  • Dynamic Content 1. Describes the basics of the CML-Bin mechanism to generate dynamic HTML via the CML language

CML Language

  • Macros Part 1 . A quick and dirty overview of the Macro Workshop and how to write basic automation logic at the CML level.

  • Macros Part 2. Following up on part 1, this installment gets into more detail about writing automation logic. (Coming soon!)

How-to Videos

Each section below provides links to one or more videos that explain how to accomplish a particular task. These videos are Windows Media based, and should be viewable in any player capable of playing Windows Media files.

  • Media Repository Configuration (Part 1), (Part 2)
This section explains how to set up the Charmed Quark media repository, get media into it, and create user interfaces to browse that media and play it back.
  • Create a Keypad (Part 1)
Shows you how to load device drivers, which is the most fundamental aspect of configuring CQC, since it allows CQC to control those devices.
  • Password Protect a Template (Part 1)
Demonstrates the concept of client side driver interfaces, which are used to configure more complex drivers.
