Default 2TB Discs

Hi

The new Fireserver looks to support 2TB discs (eg 4 drive bays, and it looks to supports upto 8TB).

Obviously I may be totally wrong, but if this is correct, does this mean that Vidabox are now supporting 2TB discs, and if so will this support, cover 2TB drives in other Vidabox products.

Thanks
Paul

Hello,

Only non-RAID VidaBox products will support 2TB discs.
RAID protected systems still are limited to 1TB only at this time.

Hi Steven

My Rack Server is coming back to you for an upgrade in a couple of weeks.

I'm just checking the status on using 2TB discs in a raid system as I think the RAID24 looks to be using them now to acheive 44TB capacity.

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

The challenge is though is that your system started off with 1TB drives.
Thus, even if we stick 2TB drives in, the system is limited by its lowest common denomination disc.

The solution is to replace all of the 1TB drives with 2TB drives, which can add up quickly - let me know if this is an option you would like us to price out and we'll revert back ASAP. Thank you!

Thanks Steven

Whilst the 2TB drives will be a costly exercise, it does elongate the life of my current RACK16 unit.

My 12 1TB discs have a data drive array that is 9.03TB in size and I have 2.83TB free, although by the end of this month there will be approx 2.6TB free.

Following our conversation it is great news that you would be able to archive all my data and restore the data to my new data drive containing the 2TB discs.

Paul

Hiya Paul,

Yes - thanks for calling in. Let me know (or have Mike email/call me) in advance when you send the drives in. The HDDs are a hot item, and we're expected to have shortages of this until mid-April, so lead times can be long!
