Default Static text widget question

Question from one of our dealers:

One question, I have been trying to figure out how to send status information to a static text widget that is on top of the screen. I thought that by writing to a GVar anywhere in the layers it would display in the static text widget, but haven't been able to get it working.

The static text widget does not track a GVAR. Think about it, did you set the GVAR that the widget needed to track anywhere in the static text widget? The answer is no. The static text widget is set manually by either entering in the text for the widget in the widget configuration window or by doing a “settext” command on the widget from any action such as onload. The widget you need to use is a variable text widget. With that widget, you can track a GVar and you can set the name of the GVar to track in the configuration for the widget.
