VidaBox vAutomation Online Training

Download, Install, & Run CQC - The Core of vAutomation

About Online Training

Because vAutomation is so powerful, it is also complex. Thus, hands-on training is mandatory for all VidaBox installers and integrators who wish to get started, as you will need to be 100% comfortable to successfully complete vAutomation projects.

Before committing to vAutomation, we recommend that all dealers go through online training (available below), so that one can evaluate their comfort level with the platform relatively quickly, before spending a large amount of time and resources

To get started, please review the recommended training program, which consists of the parts below.

Part I: 8+ hours of self-guided training via training videos below.

Self-guided training can begin at any time, just so that a dealer/integrator can get a flavor of what would be involved before making a solid financial or time committment.

Part II: Purchasing a vController with a vPad or TouchClient.

If an installer/integrator is interested and would like to learn more about vAutomation with CQC, the next step is to purchase a demo system and a touch panel (vPad or TouchClient), so that one can start programming and using live equipment to get first hand experience.
Part III: Attending hands-on L1 and L2 VidaBox sponsored trainings

Live trainings are offered on a fix schedule: Click here for details!

Part IV: Complete one-on-one vAutomation trainings w. staff programmers for an actual, real-world project (L3 & L4)

Please review the other dealer requirements and qualifications to offer vAutomation in this PDF here: [Download Now]

Note: vAutomation dealers must meet ALL requirements stated in the document before VidaBox can officially accept a PO for the equipment.
Step 1: Download/Install CQC
CQC is the background core of the vAutomation platform

First, download the CQC software onto your workstation or test bed setup:

For best results, follow along the training on a dual-monitor setup, or have two monitors running side-by-side, so that you can follow along in live time.

Begin with the first video below to get CQC installed on your workstation, so that you can follow along with the rest of the excercises. Allow plenty of uninterrupted time per training session for best results. Each video will take a few minutes for each topic, but you may find yourself rewinding to go over topics again.

Step 2: Follow Tutorial Videos
Learn about Actions, Events, GUI, Services, CML & more

Be sure to see the How-To Videos section at the end for help with more advanced tasks. Pleaes note that only the core product features are covered here. No vAutomation templates are available.

We recommended that you view these videos in the order presented, since they provide prerequisite material for all the succeeding videos. Videos are in WMV format, & should be viewable in any Windows media player or Windows PC.

For dealers w. vControllers, download the videos onto your laptop, and run them from there. For best performance, vControllers should not be running CQC & direct video playback at the same time.

Installation and Initial Configuration

- Installation.
Demonstrates a basic installation of a single machine system, which will be used in the rest of these tutorial videos.

- Loading Drivers.
Shows you how to load device drivers, which is the most fundamental aspect of configuring CQC, since it allows CQC to control those devices.

- Client Side Drivers.
Demonstrates the concept of client side driver interfaces, which are used to configure more complex drivers.

- Admin Interface.
Describes the fundamental administrative tool for CQC.

- Advanced Installation Part 1.
Gets deeper into the installer. You can come back to this after you've done the rest of the tutorial.

Actions

- Part 1. Explains the basic concepts of actions and demonstrates configuring a system action.

- Part 2. Demonstrates some more advanced action techniques.

Scheduled and Triggered Events

- Triggered Events.
Describes how to configure CQC to react to external changes.

- Scheduled Events.
Describes how to configure CQC to do things at particular times.

Graphical Interfaces

- Concepts. Explains the basic concepts of CQC graphical user interfaces by way of a working example.

- Interface Editor. Demonstrates the basic operations of the CQC User Interface Editor.

- Actions in Interfaces.
Expands on the action concept, discussed above, and the extra capabilities available in user interfaces.

- Text. Describes the use of static and dynamic text content in user interfaces.

- Images. Describes the use of images in the interface system.

- Check Boxes. Describes the checkbox, which is a very flexible widget that can be used in a number of ways.

- Overlays. Describes the overlay widget and its uses.

- ToolBar. Describes the toolbar, which is a very commonly used high level widget.

- Volume Knob/Slider. Demonstrates the volume knob and slider widgets. These look very different but act very similarly.

- Pop-ups. Demonstrates how to use pop-ups in your user interfaces.

- Pop-outs. Demonstrates how to use pop-outs in your user interfaces. These are just fancier cousins of pop-ups.

- Focus. Explains the concept of focus and the means for implementing it in your CQC interfaces.

Web Server

- File Based Content. Describes the web server and the simplest uses of it to display automation system information.

- Repository Images. Describes how to access images from the CQC image repository in your web interfaces.

- Dynamic Content 1. Describes the basics of the CML-Bin mechanism to generate dynamic HTML via the CML language

CML Language

- Macros Part 1 .
A quick and dirty overview of the Macro Workshop and how to write basic automation logic at the CML level.

- Macros Part 2. (Coming soon!)
Following up on part 1, this installment gets into more detail about writing automation logic.
Step 3: How-to Videos
Training videos for advanced vAutomation functions

How-to Videos

- Media Repository Configuration (Part 1), (Part 2)
This section explains how to set up the Charmed Quark media repository, get media into it, and create user interfaces to browse that media and play it back.

- Create a Keypad (Part 1)
This section demonstrates how to create a numeric keypad in a CQC user interface, for things like channel selection, or security system login.

- Password Protect a Template (Part 1)
This section demonstrates how to provide a simple login mechanism, in order to keep general users out of administrative user interfaces.

I've finished these training videos - now what?

If you've been able to install, run, and follow along CQC in these the vAutomation training videos, then the next logical step is to attend an in-person vAutomation training with VidaBox to get more hands-on, in-person experience how integration works with external devices via RS-232, TCP/IP, IR, & other protocols.

Can I call to ask questions about vAutomation, or is there a place where I can visit to ask and post questions?

While VidaBox does not provide direct support for dealers doing self-guided/online training, we do provide an interactive community forum where you can post your questions and have them answered by our staff or other VidaBox dealers. Click here to visit the forum.

I'd like to work with the predefined vAutomation templates or use them in my own projects. Can I download the templates to see how the templates work?

The predefined VidaBox vAutomation templates you've seen in screenshots and videos ARE NOT included by default with CQC, and only come with vAutomation licenses with VidaBox equipment.

Our pre-defined templates are private intellectual property of VidaBox. Only qualified dealers who have attended training are granted access.
