vAutomation Overview
What's vAutomation? See designs, implementations, & more

Before jumping ahead with vAutomation training, dealers should learn what vAutomation is, what it can do, and how systems designs can be completed using vAutomation and other subsystems. [Click here for more info.]

We highly recommend that all dealers go through the vAutomation section throughly before going ahead with training. vAutomation is an extremely powerful platform that provides a great deal of features and customizability, but can be challenging to pick up and learn off the bat.

Please review all of the vAutomation pages first, and then proceed with the training options below.

Level 1 Training (L1)
Learn how to control devices via RS-232, IR, TCP/IP/Ethernet

Level 1 provides dealers with hands on training that will step through the creation of functional GUI for controlling a cable box, automated lighting, and multi-zone audio.

Topics & lessons to be covered are:
- CQC and vAutomation overview
- CQC Program installation
- Brief CQC Program overview

Work with Global Cache devices to learn and blast out IR, control lights via RS-232, and digital-to-analog converters for whole house audio.

Get a sneak peak of level 1 training by visiting the vAutomation section of our community forum. Course is valid for 5.0 CEUs.

Level 2 Training (L2)
Advanced programming for MZA, source selection, and more

Upon successful completion of level 1, level 2 training is required for dealers who wish to design, sell, and install vAutomation systems for end customers. L2 covers topics such as template abstraction, integration of multiroom device controls, interfacing with MZA, various sources, cameras, and much more.

Unlike L1's relatively easy "follow along the manual" style, L2 provides dealers with actual, real world situations and a set of tools to which a design must be implemented. This allows a dealer to truly assess their understanding of the reviewed topics.

Where do I start with vAutomation training?

There are multiple levels of vAutomation training.

Before considering Level 1 training, please go through the vAutomation online training area, download & install CQC, watch, and follow along ALL of the videos available. This will provide two tremendous benefits:

1. You will be able to see & feel how CQC - the backbone of the vAutomation platform - before seriously committing. Thus, there will be no surprises at the Level 1 training.

2. Should you decide that this is the right platform for you, this will be a great primer to allow you to "hit the ground running" by familiarizing yourself with the GUI & interface, saving a great deal of time during training.

Is vAutomation hard to learn? How difficult is it compared to other automation solutions?

This greatly depends on yoru background. If you already know how to program in a computer language (C++, C#, VB, Java, etc.), if you have experience programming Crestron, AMX, Pronto remotes, you should have no problems 'picking up' & learning vAutomation and fully understanding the platform quickly.

For traditional AV integrators that have not done much or any programming in the past, it may be challenging. However, we have had many dealers that attended Levels 1 & 2 without any previous programming experience, and understood all of the concepts quickly with some time and practice.
